Apple’s Corporate Logo Design – A journey through time

The transpiring and inspiring journey of Apple’s corporate logo design is an exemplary notion of commitment and desire to achieve greatness with simplicity. The five generations of Apple’s logos demonstrate the value and importance of an adequate corporate logo, which truly symbolizes a business.

Great logos make greater brands:

Apple’s historic journey of corporate logo evolution is tenacious proof of this fact. The renowned smart phone giant revolutionized its existing corporate logo after a series of changes over time. Unbelievably, the company underwent as much as five logo transformations since its initiation in 1976. Apple conceived an idea of offering people with simplicity, which ignites curiosity and the desire for knowledge in its logo. The first logo of the company featured Isaac Newton, which sufficiently suggests the importance and greed for knowledge by the company to produce the best products in the world.

"One of the deep mysteries to me is our logo, the symbol of lust and knowledge, bitten into, all crossed with the colours of the rainbow in the wrong order. You couldn’t dream of a more appropriate logo: lust, knowledge, hope, and anarchy.” (Jean-Louis Gassée)

The various stage of evolution during the span of its operation remarkably proclaims Apple’s striving nature to achieve greatness through improvisation and that is not limited to its products. The company’s core founder strongly believed that having a legible yet simple logo will inflict the ideologies of the business in the minds of its consumers.

The inception of Apple’s corporate logo design soon underwent massive change in design and color, replacing Newton with infamous version of Apple with a bite taken off its right. Controversy remains on the factors that influenced Apple’s multi-colored version of the logo; some say it was to feature the color display introduced by the business, Apple 2. Nonetheless, Steve Job was quick to improvise upon his return to the corporate. Apple’s simplified versions included a black logo, followed by a raw metal colored logo with 3D effects, and concluded towards its latest version i.e. a white logo with 3D effects. Apple’s corporate logo design not only created a brand logo, but also infused it with its ideologies, witnessed and perceived by all of its customers.
